August is MTV birthday month and as the network gears up to celebrate its fortieth anniversary in 2021, we’ll be looking at its impact and legacy more closely in the coming posts. Meanwhile, here is half-dozen music videos that made me go wow-now on fashion styling. Who should I be checking next?! Tell me 🙂
Alewya – Sweating
How to make the utmost heat hotter?! Stylist Lee Trigg unlayers this nostalgic anthem for a time before social distancing. Meanwhile, naked dance party private playlist, check!
Arca – Anoche
This came out three years ago, but looks and sounds as fresh and enticing as tomorrow’s kiss. Stylist Akeem Smith manages to convey the entire story in a single corset. Swoon.
Yemi Alade feat. Angelique Kidjo – Shekere
This hit has been received as a beautiful torch-passing moment between the reigning and future West African music queens. Stylist Wambui Thimba delivers the regal looks.
Orville Peck – Queen of the Rodeo
Stylist Catherine Hahn makes the worn cowboy-western aesthetic exciting again. The video is a love letter to the LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit people on the American rodeo circuit.
Sampa the Great – Energy
Since its release in 2018, this powerful video has only got more energy! In part, thanks to the visuals by stylist Sereeta Venkanah that were ahead of its time, right on time.
WayV – Turn Back Time
The global power of K-Pop fans inspires me to no end. They get into look by look analysis for each video and they keep their idols accountable for styling controversies. I LOVE IT.
Meanwhile … Stay activist, stay tuned, stay styled!
