FSH 6.0: FULL MOON EDITION

In 2018, FSH6.0 (Fashion Six Point Oh) was a biweekly post-paris news and shade round-up. Six stories to dis-en-courage critical thinking, conspicuous consumption and/or unabashed ogling! This ain’t sustainable in 2019, so I’ma switch this project to the Full Moon calendar. Chani Nicholas, Rob BrezsnyGalactic Rabbit agree…

All Empires Fall: Rome, Genghis Khan, Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld has died. I hope they allow sunglasses in the afterlife. Creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous label, he’d been a formidable force in making luxury industry’s multi-billion-dollar dreams a reality. Some many say the industry, in kind, has been forgiving of viewpoints and pronouncements that could end a lesser profitable career. The tributes keep pouring in from “Stop Mourning Oppressors: Anti-Condolences for Karl Lagerfeld” to “Karl Lagerfeld Was Deeply Problematic: Can We Still Mourn Him?“. Meanwhile, Karl’s beloved cat Choupette has reached out to its quarter of a million followers as it awaits the inheritance of $150 million. Long Live Choupette!

A Rising Fashion Trend: No New Clothes

How often do you have to buy stuff to maintain your fashionista membership card? What, you don’t have a card?! Sorry, you must not be into fashion then, really. The Guardian reports on the renaissance of secondhand clothing shopping in England. It’s worth a read just for the shout-out to the incomparable Phoebe Buffay, the unsung style icon from Friends. While hair-days of getting a “Rachel” are over, Phoebe seems to be getting the last laugh. Brand new or secondhand is the new chicken vs. egg!!!

Out-Design Your Self: #ColorOurCollections 2019

Try being a fashion illustrator for a day (or few)… The annual Color Our Collections initiative has released its 2019 free adult coloring books online from hundreds of major institutions, archives and libraries. There is plenty of flora, fauna and cityscapes. However, several options include fascinating style studies. Check out and download submissions from the Villanova University in Pennsylvania, the Jagiellonian University in Poland, or Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatán in Mexico. If there are no new Post-Paris posts in the next couple weeks, y’all know now what’d be keeping me busy 🙂

Style Icons: Then & Now… and Forever

Artist Ard Gelinck creates a poignant series of portraits that feature famous people posing with their younger selves. Finally, a welcome intervention by Photoshop! If your kid-you could see you now, would they approve of your life(style) and your wardrobe choices?! Check out the full gallery here and get nostalgic. Which pairing is your fave? P.S. For example, Hornet has published a selection of queer music icons from the line up.

Quick, Help! My Ear Is Blurring!

The sexysmart people at Next Shark report that China has banned earrings on men… on national television! This is part of a larger campaign to reinforce gender normativity. The offending ears now appear pixelated during broadcast as if it’s Japanese porn… Sidenote: genitals in Japanese porn are pixelated and here is why.  But do earrings have gender?! The intercultural debate rages on both in academia and in pop culture. I don’t have it/them, but this makes me reconsider! #PiercingPatriarchy

@PlayFashBall: Soccer, It’s Not Just About the Balls

Football and Fashion. Soccer & Style. If you have been following my mild preoccupation with the world’s greatest (and most profitable) game, this next fun/fan project should come as no surprise. After chronicling the World Cup style-chatter and analyzing its aftermath, I’m starting @playfashball, an Instagram account that celebrates the (life)style of football players who inspire us to Personal Greatness. The sex appeal, the swagger, the calfs. Emerging designers, world’s biggest brands, iconic color schemes. For the love of it all. Football + Fashion = Life. (“Soccer” fans welcome, too!) #PlayFashBall

There you have it. FSH 6.0 / FASHION SIX POINT OH. February 19, 2019
