When I see a juicy fashion/arts story, I make a note to write about it later. That’s how I’m hoarding 700+ screenshot receipts up in my iCloud. #Intervention. FSH 6.0 (Fashion Six Point Oh) is a weekly news and shade round-up delivered on Sundays to get with the times. Six stories. Six comments. Six spritz brunch. Onward!
WHAT DOES AN ASIAN LOOK LOOK LIKE? LOOK AGAIN!
Nepali-American designer Prabal Gurung, a certified thirst trap, released the brand’s fall ads. Fashion media lost its sh*t ’cause photo duo Jin+Dana shot exclusively Asian models to honor the diversity across the world’s most populated continent. Nearly half the earthlings live in Asia, yet a global campaign without white people is somehow a shocker. Kimberly Yam explains why “Stronger in Color” ruffled fashion-supremacist feathers. GOT SHAME?! GO FORTH AND SHAME NO MORE!
Smooth operator Maxwell dropped a video so breathtaking, an oxygen mask dropped on my keyboard. Shame features an all-black cast, brazen couture & a bathtub that overfloweth. The buzz is just getting fired up! My fiercest colleague Sissi Johnson is all over it as executive producer and creative director. Read her ELLE interview & marvel! P.S. I got a shout-out in the credits. #FML. In a good way.
GIANNI KORS … IT’S ALL THE SAME TO ME!
Michael Kors bought Versace for $2+ billion and renamed the company Capri Holdings to honor “the iconic, glamorous and luxury destination.” Here’s the thing. Both brands are neither owned nor designed by their namesake people! Where’s humanity therein? Pure corporate power. Power seeks power. Let me give you the next inevitable headline now: H&M buys Capri Holdings with Michael Kors & Versace for a ga$illion and renames the company Gulag Luxe Inc. to honor its loyal customers’ indentured servitude.
THERE IS LITTLE FRENCH ABOUT PARIS ET C’EST BON COMME ÇA!
Paris has a post-paris secret: its mystique is created and curated by people from all over the world. Vogue Mexico profiled a group of Venezuelans rocking the world’s “fashion capital” steady. I was like hola-guapo-que-tal to see my wondrous colleague David Gómez-Villamediana make the list! We met in Tbilisi, he is based in LA, as it were. Venezuela could use good vibes RN, so get to know these maravillosa folks. CLICK HERE>
THE REQUISITE TRUMP BIT. I JUST CAN’T WITH OR WITHOUT IT.
To address inquires about my take on Melania Trump, “the most bullied person on the world”, and her politicized wardrobe I turn to the Pulitzer Prize wielding fashion critic Robin Givhan who dropped the mic: “Nothing else Melania Trump wears will ever matter again!” Melania is such a disappointment to me as a member of the English as a Second Language community. “I was rooting for you! We were all rooting for you!”
THE FUTURE OF FASHION FILM IS UKRAINIAN! NOW YOU KNOW.
A Shaded View on Fashion Film Festival wrapped its 10th anniversary edition in Paris and Grisha’s Guide to Kiev by first-time director Jordan Blady won Grand Prix. I have a soft spot for Ukraine as my first Forbes assignment. I’m proud of my shaded-view bff Stephan Rabimov for being on the JURY alongside icon living Rossy de Palma (sorry-not-sorry, Jaden Smith). The potential of fashion film is immense & I’ll write about it.
There it is. FSH 6.0 / FASHION SIX POINT OH. First edition: October 21, 2018
