Claud – A Good Thing
I know it’s decidedly NOT sweater weather, but this series began with a Labrinth’s Jealous sweater, so we could not pass “a good thing” by. Not with Paul Rudd as a dancing mailman… Sweater by Makena Andros turns an ubiquotous garment into a fun protagonist with a storyline all its own. However, it caused a bit of an emotional controversy in the crochet community prompting the artist to issue “an apology” 🙂 Wow.
Helly Luv – Yalla Habibi
Helly is a Kurdish performer based in Finland. Her plight was a subject of the 2015 haunting documentary A Flag Without a Country. Great to see her thrive in this lushious vision of luv produced by CineKurd and styled with garments from her own fashion label Luvión Couture. Yalla, indeed!
Troye Sivan – Rush
Stylist Larissa Bechtold created a wild-yet-relateable party scene for one of summer’s (decade’s) hottest videos. My only Stanislavsky “I do not believe!” moment is three guys dancing in-synch while “wasted” 🙂 LOL 🙂 Given the amount of wardrobe work involved, a big shout-out to styling assistants Zack Steiner Fox, Camille Pailler, Joan Ling-Lee Nesbit-Chang and on-set tailor Elsa Lequevaques.
Stylists Winta Ghebre and Annelise Lombard Platet elevate a dress to a level of couture Scripture. This earth-toned gown takes fashion storytelling to new heights. Ok, enough with that. Very cool styling for a very cool track. What more could we ask for?!
LP – One Like You
LP’s capacity for epic storytelling is not lost on me 😉 Stylist Josef Čechota pulls out all the stops (and hangers) for a cinematic shoot in Prague’s Royal Theater featuring Prague Burlesque cast. It’s giving Moulin Rouge. It’s serving The Great Gatsby. It’s a feverish dream of every vintage fashion enthusiast.
Hania Rani feat. Patrick Watson – Dancing with Ghosts
Stylist Claudia Cali does a fantasma-stic job of creating looks that blend with their urban surroundings and pledge allegiance to the emotional state(s) of the performers. This collaboration has top Style the Beat pedigree: Hania Rani was featured in May 2020 and Patrick Watson in August 2021. A brilliant video.
